How to Prepare for NDA Maths in 3 Months: A Week-by-Week Plan
NDA Paper 1 (Mathematics) carries 300 marks — the single largest score in the written exam — and is very scoring with the right plan. Here is a realistic 3-month, week-by-week schedule to go from start to exam-ready.
Know the exam first
NDA Maths has 120 questions, 2.5 marks each, with negative marking of 0.83 per wrong answer. The syllabus spans Class 11–12 level: Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry (2D & 3D), Matrices & Determinants, Vectors, Statistics and Probability.
The 3-month plan
Step 1 — Month 1: Build the core (Weeks 1–4)
Cover the high-weightage foundations: Algebra (sets, complex numbers, quadratics, sequences), Matrices & Determinants, and Trigonometry. Finish one topic fully before moving on, and solve 30–40 questions per topic.
Step 2 — Month 2: Calculus & Geometry (Weeks 5–8)
Tackle Differential and Integral Calculus, Analytical Geometry 2D & 3D, and Vectors. These together make up a large share of the paper, so give them your sharpest hours.
Step 3 — Month 3: Statistics, revision & mocks (Weeks 9–12)
Finish Statistics & Probability, then shift to full-length mock tests — at least 3 per week in the final month. Analyse every mock: log mistakes, redo wrong questions, and revise formula sheets daily.
Step 4 — Final week: Sharpen, don't cram
Solve previous-year papers, revise your error log, and practise time management (aim to attempt only what you are confident about, given negative marking).
Daily routine that works
- 2–3 focused hours of Maths, 6 days a week.
- One full topic test every 3 days; one full mock every weekend (scaling up in Month 3).
- A running "mistake notebook" you revise before every new session.

Frequently asked questions
Is 3 months enough to prepare for NDA Maths?
Yes, if you study consistently (2–3 hours daily), follow a topic-wise plan, and dedicate the final month to mock tests and revision. The syllabus is Class 11–12 level and very scoring.
How do I handle negative marking in NDA Maths?
Attempt only questions you are reasonably confident about. With 0.83 negative marks per wrong answer, blind guessing hurts your score, so accuracy beats over-attempting.
Which topics are most important for NDA Maths?
Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry, Matrices & Determinants, and Analytical Geometry carry the most questions. Master these before moving to Statistics and Probability.
